Computer guided sinus surgery is state of the art technology first introduced in the 1990’s. With advancements in accuracy and ease of use, computer guided sinus surgery is indicated in complicated and revision sinus surgery.

Computer guided surgery requires a special CT scan that is loaded into the system prior to the procedure. Specialized instruments are calibrated and utilized during the procedure which allow for highly accurate localization of sinus disease. The CT scan is displayed on a large screen in real time during the procedure. Instrument locations within the sinus cavities are displayed with cross hairs on the screen. This is similar to a GPS system for the sinus. Accuracy approaches 1 mm.

This technology is most beneficial when operating on previously operated sinuses or cases where the frontal or sphenoid sinuses require surgery.

Our practice is a tertiary referral practice and nearly all sinus surgeries are performed using computer image guidance. This technology allows for a safer and more effective sinus surgery.
